Author Guidelines

1. Scope and Publication Schedule

Revista Portuguesa de Filosofia (RPF) publishes thematic issues each quarter. A limited number of off-topic articles may be accepted in the Varia section of each issue.

2. Article Types

  1. Sample Articles: Download our formatted example (complete version and blind version) to see how your manuscript should look before submission.

  2. Original Articles: Unpublished research of recognised scholarly merit.

  3. Book Reviews and other shorter contributions can be submitted.

3. General Requirements

  1. Originality – Manuscripts must be unpublished and not under consideration elsewhere.
  2. Length – Maximum 10,000 words, including footnotes and bibliography.
  3. Languages – Portuguese, English, French, or Spanish.
    From the 2025 volume onward, RPF will no longer accept manuscripts in German or Italian.
  4. File format – Submit in .doc or .docx.
  5. Structure
    1. Cover Sheet (separate file for blind review)
      1. Article title (regular capitals)
      2. Author name(s) and institutional affiliation(s)
      3. Contact e-mail
      4. Author Orcid(s)
      5. Abstract (≤ 1,250 characters, English only)
      6. Keywords (4–8, English, alphabetical order)
    2. Body Text divided into numbered sections
      1. All references in footnotes
      2. Conclude with a Bibliography
  6. Blind Version – Provide a second file with all author-identifying data removed.

4. Style and References

RPF follows Chicago Manual of Style, 17th ed., Full-Note system.

  • Footnotes and bibliography entries follow different formats; verify both.

  • DOI numbers are mandatory when available and must appear as the final element of each bibliographic entry.
    Detailed reference examples and a formatted dummy article (with and without authors) can be downloaded from the journal website.

5. Citation-Management Software

We strongly recommend using professional reference tools: EndNote, Mendeley, or Zotero.

6. Copyright and Publication Ethics

  • By submitting a manuscript, authors grant RPF exclusive publication rights. Subsequent reuse of the article, even by the author, requires written permission from the Editor-in-Chief.

  • All submissions must follow the journal’s Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement (available on the website).

7. Evaluation Process

  • All articles undergo double-blind peer review.

  • Authors should suggest three potential reviewers with relevant expertise; final selection rests with the Editorial Board.

  • Detailed information on the review workflow is provided on the “Evaluation of Texts” page.

8. Submission Limits

  • One article per author per calendar year.

  • RPF normally accepts manuscripts with no more than two co-authors; exceptions are considered by the Editorial Board.
