Hybrid Open Access Publication Option

In response to the growing demand for open access to academic research, the Revista Portuguesa de Filosofia, published by Axioma – Publicações da Faculdade de Filosofia, has introduced a Hybrid Open Access model. This initiative aims to balance our long-standing editorial traditions with the evolving expectations of the global research community.

I. Traditional and Open Access Options

  • Traditional Access: Articles continue to be published under the standard subscription model, available via institutional platforms (e.g., JSTOR, EBSCO) or direct purchase.
  • Open Access: Authors may elect to publish their articles Open Access by paying a one-time publication fee of €1,500 (VAT applicable). These articles are made freely available online under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

II. Why Choose Hybrid Open Access?

  • Greater Visibility: Open Access significantly increases the article’s exposure, access, and citation potential.
  • Funder Compliance: Meets Open Access mandates set by funding agencies and research institutions.
  • Editorial Integrity: All articles, regardless of access type, undergo identical double-blind peer review and editorial procedures.
  • Ethical Reuse: Open Access articles are licensed for responsible academic sharing and attribution under CC BY 4.0.

III. How the Hybrid Model Works

  1. Submission: Authors submit manuscripts through our standard submission portal.
  2. Peer Review: All submissions are subject to rigorous double-blind peer review.
  3. Post-Acceptance Choice: Upon acceptance, authors may choose between traditional or Open Access publication.
  4. Publication: All articles are published in the same volume; Open Access articles are clearly marked and freely available online.

IV. Maintaining Academic Excellence and Reach

  • Established in 1945, the Journal upholds the highest academic standards.
  • Indexed in major international databases including SCOPUS, JSTOR, EBSCO, PhilPapers, ERIH PLUS, and The Philosopher’s Index.
  • Global discoverability and long-term online hosting.

The Hybrid Open Access option reaffirms our commitment to both scholarly excellence and accessibility. Authors retain the freedom to choose the model that best aligns with their dissemination goals and funding requirements. We warmly invite contributors to join us in this new chapter of academic publishing.
